A Century of
Excellence in Athletics |
| The tradition of excellence
in athletics is almost as old as our schools. Records indicate that Athletic Associations
were formed within the school as early as the 1908-09 school years. The next year
(1909-10) saw the formation of the first Intramural competition for Boys Basketball and
Inter-school competition for Boys Baseball and Girls Basketball. However, the girls team
failed to form again for 1910-11. Inter-school competition resumed in earnest for the
1911-12 season for Boys Baseball, Boys Basketball and Girls Basketball. Track and Field
competition began in 1916-17 and Boys Football began in 1922-23. As our schools and
student populations continued to expand we added more and more sports. Today Mainland
fields 37 teams in 17 different sports and numerous auxiliaries.
Although Mainland is best known for our championship basketball teams we have also garnered
numerous District & Regional Championships in football and in 2003 became the
first Volusia County High School to win a State
Championship in
football.
We are very proud of ALL of our student athletes competing in
all sports and their many accomplishments through the years! The chart below showcases some
of Mainland's athletic accomplishments.
